In 2023 I left a long editorial and commercial career in New York and moved permanently to Pueblo Garzón, Uruguay—a village of roughly 200 year-round residents. I’m learning the language and, for the first time, making pictures from inside my own community. Working with 8×10 and 35 mm film, I follow the slow rhythm here: work and rest, dust and wind, faces I know by name. The tension between formats matters—the weight and stillness of large format against the looseness and immediacy of 35 mm. Printed as selenium-toned silver-gelatin photographs, the pictures are meant to be stubbornly physical in a frictionless image era.

En 2023, dejé una larga carrera editorial y comercial en Nueva York y me mudé definitivamente a Pueblo Garzón, Uruguay, un pueblo con aproximadamente 200 residentes permanentes. Estoy aprendiendo el idioma y, por primera vez, tomando fotos desde mi propia comunidad. Trabajando con película de 8×10 y 35 mm, sigo el ritmo lento de aquí: trabajo y descanso, polvo y viento, rostros que conozco por su nombre. La tensión entre formatos importa: el peso y la quietud del gran formato frente a la soltura e inmediatez del 35 mm. Impresas como fotografías de gelatina de plata con tonos de selenio, las imágenes buscan ser tercamente físicas en una era de imágenes sin fricción.
